Top NC High Country Holiday Activities

Create a new family tradition and cherish mountain memories for a lifetime

Enjoy a picturesque small town Christmas experience in the North Carolina High Country (Boone, Blowing Rock, Beech Mountain, Banner Elk & West Jefferson). Here is our list of top family holiday activities:

1. Choose & Cut Your Own Christmas Tree
Visit a choose & cut farm for a full day experience!  Take a hayride (maybe with a snowflake or two in the air!) to the tree fields and pick your family tree.  While your tree is being cut and baled for your vehicle, enjoy other activities such as farm animal visits, bonfires with cookies & hot chocolate and visits with Santa.

2. Watch a Small Town Parade or Lighting of the Tree
Enjoy a Christmas parade featuring the classics such as fire trucks and Santa and plenty of candy canes without the big city crowds! Many towns have caroling, free cider and bonfires, hayrides and more after the parades and lighting of the towns offering many family holiday memories in the making.

3. Enjoy Snowy Family Fun
Nothing says Christmas like snow!  Enjoy snow tubing at the largest tubing park in the Southeast, Hawksnest Snow Tubing,  youth sledding on the Beech Mountain Sledding Hill, and ice skating, snowboarding or skiing  at the High Country’s most family friendly ski resort, Appalachian Ski Mountain.

4. Take in a Christmas Show
Enjoy a classic holiday music variety show or “A Christmas Carol” with Ensemble Stage. If your family enjoys music, experience Appalachian culture with a traditional mountain Christmas concert with storytelling from Mountain Home Music.
