Who Knew? Babies Love iPads!

Published:

When I was a kid, I remember playing computer games like "Oregon Trail" and "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?" I remember getting an original Nintendo Entertainment System for Christmas and playing Super Mario Brothers and Duck Hunt for hours. I still remember a world with cassette tapes and without cell phones! Of course, technology has improved drastically over the years. However, I never expected my seven-month-old daughter would enjoy playing games on an iPad or iPhone.

We downloaded a free app called, "The Giggle Gang" and Lyla loves it! Her face lights up with an ear-to-ear smile every time she hears the little characters start laughing. The game has two "levels." In the first level, one little "Giggle Gang" character bounces around the screen and laughs. Then, every time Lyla touches the screen, another "Giggle Gang" member appears and laughs. It's very basic, but the game entertains Lyla and she always giggles right along with the characters. The second level includes a "virtual piano" that functions like many other piano apps. If your child taps a character, the character will do a short performance.

I'd highly recommend downloading this free app. Lyla loves the game so much, we bought her a stuffed animal version of one of the characters. You can buy "Giggle Gang" characters at Target, Babies R Us, or your favorite baby store. They laugh when you squeeze their stomach!

It's amazing to watch my daughter interacting with technology at such a young age. I can't help but wonder how much technology will change and improve during her lifetime. She will never know life without a cell phone. The internet will always be there. Social media will only grow stronger. All of this is stressing me out! Even though I'm sure all the technology upgrades will be great, I am confident new technology will make parenting even tougher, too. But, I won't have to worry about that for awhile. For now, I'll just enjoy watching Lyla giggle along with the Giggle Gang.

Does your child have a favorite app? Let me know! Post your suggestions in the comments section.
