Load Up on Summer Fun at These Family-Friendly Outdoor Events

The kids are headed back to school and the stores are setting up their Halloween displays. Cooler days are right around the corners, so we need to enjoy the outdoors while it's still warm. Here are our top 7 picks for outdoor family fun this weekend. 

3rd Annual Home Grown Arts Festival, Kernersville, FREE

Local artisans fromThe Kernersville Arts and Crafts Guild will set up on the lawn of Körner’s Folly to showcase and sell their hand-made creations. This is a juried event for handmade items. 

11th Annual Shmedfest, Kernersville, FREE

This family-friendly event benefitting Crisis Control Ministry includes live music provided by five different local bands. Dinner will be provided by K&W Cafeteria and beer will be courtesy of Foothills Brewing. There is no cost to attend, but donations to Crisis Control Ministry at the event are encouraged. 

Cinema Under the Stars, Greensboro, FREE

Bring a blanket and lounge on the lawn for this outdoor movie event. Tonight's feature movie is "The Intern." The movie starts at sunset. 

Cinema Under the Stars, Winston-Salem

Filmgoers are encouraged to arrive early and picnic on the lawn and to participate in nightly themes inspired by the films. Well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome. Tonight's feature movie is "Field of Dreams" (1989). Bring a baseball glove for a round of catch. 

Family Shows at the Farm, High Point

Visit a real working butterfly farm. Enjoy a fun, fast-paced, interactive skit. Learn about the lifecycle of a Monarch butterfly and then hand-feed butterflies.

Kirkwood 5K, Greensboro

The K5K is a family focused run/walk/push designed to get the entire community involved. The flat course is nestled in the cozy, neighborhood streets of Kirkwood and promises to be a fast, easy, and refreshing 5K. All proceeds for the 2016 K5K will benefit BackPack Beginnings. 

Pokémon Saturday, High Point, FREE

The Historical Park includes two Pokestops and two Pokegyms. Museum staff will be dropping lures throughout the day. Other activities include Pokémon games, Pokémon contests, Pokémon crafts and Pokegym battles.
