This is the last official weekend of summer and we've got a list of events to send summer away and usher fall in with grandeur and great excitement. This weekend, the Triad will see everything from apples to zombies, with plenty in between to entertain the whole family. Check out our top 14 family-friendly events for this weekend.
2nd Annual Zombie Parade & Monster Fest, Mocksville
Come out for a day of food and merchant vendors of all types. There will be a DJ-Music-Monster dance crew, zombies and much more. Kids events begin at 1 p.m. ($2 fee) and include storytelling, games and Lowe's Home Improvement crafts. The Zombie Parade begins at 3 p.m. (see website for parade participation fees). Enjoy trick-or-treating after the parade. All proceeds support Milling Manor.
29th Annual Burlington Carousel Festival, Burlington, FREE
This is a free two-day music festival. Art and antiques, great food, music and amusement park rides will fill City Park. The Carousel Festival hosts three stages of bands and performers. This festival features fun for the whole family.
Apple Fest, Winston-Salem, FREE
Come enjoy apples, crafts, music, food and more. Check out the Hogway Speedway with the Official Racing Pigs, games for children and much more.
Central Carolina Fair, Greensboro
The 118th annual Central Carolina Fair will light up the sky around the Greensboro Coliseum Complex once again this fall. Featuring rides, carnival food and games, thousands of exhibits by local 4H groups and wholesome family entertainment and attractions for all ages.
Cinema Under the Stars, Greensboro, FREE
Bring a blanket and lounge on the lawn for this outdoor movie event. Tonight's feature movie is "The Book Thief." The movie starts at sunset.
Cirque Italia, Greensboro
An extraordinary stage holds 35,000 gallons of water and features a dynamic lid which lifts 35 feet into the air, allowing water to fall like rain from above as fountains dazzle below. Also enjoy a contortionist, a jet ski act and more.
Dailey & Vincent Landfest, Denton
Come for a weekend of music, comedy, camping, food and family fun. This year’s lineup features amazing artists, such as Dailey & Vincent, Jimmy Fortune, Balsam Range, The Gibson Brothers, Jerry Douglas, Earls of Leicester and many more.
Day in the Park, High Point
Music, crafts, historical demonstrations, food vendors and pirates, are just some of the offerings during this festival. Admission is free. All-day ride passes are $6.
End of Summer Movie Night: "Hotel Transylvania 2," Kernersville, FREE
Bring the whole family, neighbors and some lawn chairs and enjoy watching a movie under the stars. There will be fun movie games to play before the movie starts. There will also be food trucks and goodie bags — as long as supplies last. The movie begins at dusk.
Evening Pokémon GO Lure Party, Asheboro
The NC Zoo is setting Pokémon GO lures at some of its 52 PokéStops. Thousands of Pokémon have been collected and 8 gyms have been established at the galaxy’s largest zoo. Restock your backpack at one of the many PokéStops, gain experience at a gym of your choice and hatch those eggs by walking the zoo's five miles of shaded trails. Rare Pokémon are seen at the zoo, along with water, electric, rock, grass, fire, ground, psychic and fighting Pokémon.
Just Fun FUR a Day, Colfax, FREE
The SPCA of the Triad is having a huge event with vendors at Piedmont Triad Farmers Market. Never Too Late bluegrass band will be featured. Lots of games and activities for the whole family.
Maize Adventure, Archdale
An entertaining yet educational atmosphere that celebrates fellowship while building traditional values. Offering fun for the whole family, pets are also welcome on a leash to share the great outdoors and explore the corn maze.
Movie Night in the Village: "Zootopia," Clemmons, FREE
Bring your family and join your neighbors and friends for a movie under the stars. Come early to enjoy the playgrounds and fields and enjoy a night off from cooking with Boone Doggies, Chic-Fil-A and Kona Ice.
This event will take a look at the monsters and beasts that inhabit our dreams and folktales by peering through different lenses to explore the beauty, monstrousness and magic of these creatures. For the past 18 years, Paperhand has been making and using giant puppets, masks, painted flats, stilts, rod and shadow puppets to create sweeping whimsical spectacles, tell stories, and inspire audiences of all ages.
