Description:

Weekly camps throughout the summer - divided into developmental age groups.
Preschool Summer
For children ages 3-5 who have not been to a full day of kindergarten. Sessions run from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. with extended care available for morning and afternoon. This program offers a safe and comfortable environment for preschool children (ages 3-5) to play, socialize and learn in the summer. Each session will have a central theme. Activities for each session will be centered on this theme and will include projects such as painting, cooking, playing in centers, building, drawing, Play-Doh, dress-ups, outside play and outside water play. Sessions this year will be led by our NGFS preschool teachers, Jeannie Wigal and Maria Maul. This year we are thrilled to be offering 9 sessions!
Summer Adventures
For kids from 5 years old to kids who have completed 3rd grade. Sessions run from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Extended Care AM & PM hours available from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Summer Adventures consists of ten, one week-long themed sessions. These themes give us a focus for learning about science, historical events and people, and provide a focus for games and craft projects. The children will often be separated into groups by age, but they will have the opportunity to work in multi-age groups for some projects and games. Space is limited and we do fill up, so sign up early!
Summer Explorers
For kids who have completed 4th & 5th grades. Sessions run from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Extended Care AM & PM hours available from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Summer Explorers is a level of summer program that allows 4th and 5th grade students to explore new activities and themes in an age appropriate group. Themes for this program were created using a blend of ideas from both our Adventure Sessions and our Middle School Electives, giving the participants a bridge between the two programs. In addition to activities on campus, we are offering several field trip opportunities. The smaller group size in this program will provide participants a chance to do more in-depth and developmentally appropriate activities and projects.
Middle School Electives
For students who have completed 6th through 8th grades. Sessions run from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Extended Care AM & PM hours available from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. The Middle School Electives are open to students who have completed 6th, 7th or 8th grade. Given the developmental importance of having social interactions at this age, we offer this program to provide a safe and appropriate place for social and learning opportunities, in comfortable settings, for students in middle school. Everything is oriented toward students trying and doing activities for themselves while having fun with their peers in a relaxed learning environment. We offer participants in this program, consistent and developmentally appropriate activities for grades 6-8.
High School Offerings
For students who have completed 8th through 11th grades. Sessions run from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Our High School Offerings are open to students who have completed 8th-11th grades. These classes are designed to give high school students a more focused setting with teachers who have a high level of knowledge, expertise and passion in their subject matter. This summer we are pleased to offer 3 different classes.
Friendly Violins
For students who have completed 3rd-8th Grades. Extended Care AM & PM hours available from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Friendly Violins offers a week of concentrated music study and musical enjoyment for students already involved in Suzuki violin lessons. It is designed for students who have completed 3rd through 8th grade and will run concurrently with the New Garden Friends School Summer Program. Early morning care and extended care hours are available through the NGFS Summer Program if needed. It will be a very exciting and challenging week of musical enrichment and just the extra boost needed to keep your young violinist progressing through the summer months. Jeannie Sykes, our music teacher and member of the Greensboro Symphony, will lead this week. For more information, please contact Jeannie at jeannies@ngfs.org, check our website, or call the school office for a detailed brochure.
