Summer has us all outdoors more. We're hiking, swimming and playing as we enjoy the warm weather. This weekend, should you want a short break from the activity and heat, try cooling off by taking in a performance or two. Here are our top-7 picks for exciting performances around the Piedmont Triad this weekend.

Disney’s "Beauty and The Beast Jr.," Greensboro

Greensboro Performing Arts Two Week Summer Musical Theater Intensive proudly presents ‘a tale as old as time.’ This play is a fantastic adaptation of the story of transformation and tolerance. The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity. 2 Hours. All ages.

Family Shows at the Farm, High Point

OK, this one is outside, but it's still a great opportunity to relax and be amazed. Your visit begins a fun, fast-paced skit using kids from the audience. Your family will learn about the lifecycle of a Monarch butterfly and then see eggs, caterpillars, chrysalis' and adult Monarchs in the flight house. After the performance, you'll all have the opportunity to hand-feed the butterflies.

GSC Evening Laser Show, Greensboro

Greensboro Science Center's must-see evening laser shows combine your favorite music with an amazing laser light show that dances across the OmniSphere Theater's 40-foot dome. This month's music features Metallica. Show times are 7, 8 and 9 p.m.

Körner’s Folly Family Revue Puppet Show, Kernersville

Enjoy a puppet show in the historic mansion. Following the show, audience members will be invited to participate in a make-and-take sock puppet craft. Great for children of all ages. Puppet Show tickets are free with purchase of regular admission on the same day.

"Leap of Faith," Kernersville

The “Reverend” Jonas Nightingale an electrifying performer and con artist, is traveling with his ministry when his bus breaks down in a small Kansas town. The part-time reverend and full-time crook pitches a tent and invites the locals to a revival. The sheriff, a woman named Marla McGowan, is determined to stop Jonas from separating the townspeople from their money, and Jonas’ real challenge arises when he meets the sheriff and her son. A gospel honky-tonk filled show, come see what happens when love forces an ultimate cynic to take a real leap of faith. Performed by Kernersville Little Theatre. Appropriate for all ages.

NC Zoo Grooves, Asheboro

Bring the family and come shake your tail feathers to the tunes of four North Carolina blues and rock-n-roll bands. Southern Chill, Brothers Pearl, TripleWide and Abe Reid and the Spikedrivers will get you grooving in the outdoor Africa Amphitheater. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Doors open at 5 p.m. for general admission seating (chairs and blankets allowed).

UniverSoul Circus, Greensboro

A big top spectacle of global proportions, the 2016 production of UniverSoul Circus takes fans of all ages on an unforgettable journey of light, sound and soul. Get ready for electrifying, edge-of-your-seat performances during this event, which is hailed as the most interactive circus in the world.
