Summer is a great time for art. Whether your family just wants to be inspired or craves hands-on experiences, the Triad has art events you'll want to consider this weekend. Here are our top-5 picks.
An inclusive community exhibition of NC artists of all ages and stages who submitted an original piece of artwork measuring exactly 7in x 7in. The exhibition is set in the InFocus Gallery and will be on display during normal GreenHill hours. Free and open to the public.
Death at the Crossroads: A Dramatic Reading of Yoruba Art, Winston-Salem
The MOA’s extensive Yoruba collections are showcased in this exhibit, set as a visual narration of Nobel Prize-winning author Wole Soyinka's classic play, "Death and the King's Horseman." The exhibit comments on the themes of the play, including visual/verbal metaphor, power and politics in society, gender roles, colonization and what it means to lead a good life (and death).
Drawing and Painting: Draw, Paint and Play! Greensboro
Artmaking as a family is a fun and engaging way to bond while exploring your creativity. Learn the fundamentals of drawing and painting in a family-friendly environment that encourages learning through exploration. Each workshop curriculum focuses on a different theme presented by the instructor in a single lesson unit. All materials included. Registration required.
Paint & Punch, High Point
A unique way to socialize and relax while you sip some delicious homemade punch and release your inner artist. Art supplies, step-by-step instructions and, of course, delicious punch are provided. You may bring your our own appetizers, but your apron, brush and paints will be waiting for you when you arrive. To celebrate the summer season, Footprints in the Sand will be the theme for this event. Registration required.
Saturday ART Jam! Winston-Salem
Learn, Play, Create. It's time to break out the paint and get creative. Bring the kiddos to Unleashed Arts Center and make an exciting, new art project. This program is led by professional Team AFAS Art Instructor and Project Manager, Sherry Rose. Spark young imaginations, learn the various elements of art and take home your very own, one-of-a-kind creation. Family/group participation is encouraged. All ages.
