What have you got planned for this weekend? The Triad and surrounding cities have lots to offer families, from throwing pottery to Frisbee-catching K9s, there is plenty to do. And on stage, you'll want to sing along with your kids to some of the most beloved stories to be told live through acting, song and dance. Here are out top-13 picks for a weekend packed with family fun.

Blacksmith Demonstration, High Point

Come watch a costumed blacksmith in action as he crafts various iron pieces. All ages.

Disney's "Beauty and the Beast Jr.," Winston-Salem

The classic tale of Beauty and the Beast is live onstage in this incredible production featuring over 30 of the Triad's most talented young performers.

Family Shows at the Farm, High Point

Visit a real working butterfly farm. Your visit begins with a fun, fast-paced skit using kids from the audience. You will learn about the lifecycle of a Monarch butterfly and then see eggs, caterpillars, chrysalis' and adult Monarchs in the flight house. All visitors are encouraged to hand-feed the butterflies for an up-close look. Picnic tables available.

"High School Musical 2, Jr.," Winston-Salem

In this Creative Drama Children's Theatre production, the gang is back for an action-packed summer extravaganza as Troy, Gabriella and the rest of the Wildcats finish junior year and blast onto the summer scene with all the fun and music you love. 

"James and the Giant Peach Jr.," Greensboro

When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that grows a tremendous peach, rolls into the ocean and launches a journey of enormous proportions. James befriends a collection of singing insects that ride the giant piece of fruit across the ocean, facing hunger, sharks and plenty of disagreements along the way. Enjoy creative costuming and puppetry as well as young local actors playing the outlandish and larger-than-life human and insect characters.

K-9s in Flight Frisbee Dogs, Blowing Rock

These incredible dogs have delighted audiences nationwide at half time shows and on television. Don’t miss them live at Tweetsie.

Körner’s Folly Family Fun Day, Kernersville

Learn about historic games and Victorian traditions while participating in hands-on activities and crafts during this annual event. Come explore the 22-room house museum through the eyes of the Körner children and see a puppet show. This event will take place rain or shine. It will be held on the lawn, porches and inside Historic Korner’s Folly. The Puppet Show will be performed at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Muddy Buddies: Parent and Child Pottery Workshop, Greensboro

This Center for Visual Artists (CVA) pottery class lets both you and your child enjoy a day to work together and just get messy. Team up and tackle throwing on the pottery wheel or use two sets of hands to build a clay construction that will make you both proud. Registration required.

"Oliver," Greensboro

This classic show is based on the story of Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. With rousing music and memorable characters the show tells the story of Oliver, and orphan in late 1800s London who is raised in a workhouse. He runs away, forms a life on the streets until he is recognized by long lost relatives. Appropriate for all ages.

Paper Bag Puppets, Winston-Salem

Head to the art studio, where you'll find all you need to make your own paper bag puppets. Included with museum admission.

Saturday ART Jam! Winston-Salem

Spark young imaginations, learn the various elements of art and take home your very own, one-of-a-kind creation. Family/group participation is encouraged. 

Stepping into the Craft, Seagrove

Each Saturday in July you can observe demonstrations or participate in hands-on activities, mini-classes and workshops all throughout the Seagrove Pottery Community. Hours vary depending on pottery shop.

Third Annual Positive Youth Rap Contest, Greensboro

Youth in grades K-12 can share their positive raps and have a chance to win prizes in this special event sponsored by Empowerment Speaking Quest. Registration is required.
