We've rounded up 11 fun family events for your weekend. From festivals and fairs, to free movies and seasonal fun, the Triad offers families plenty to do. 


Weekend Events

44th Annual Asheboro Fall Festival, Asheboro, FREE

This popular combination street fair, bazaar, harvest celebration and homecoming is held annually in downtown Asheboro. It offers a variety of quality arts and crafts, demonstrations, children's crafts, food, live music and a flea market section.

134th Dixie Classic Fair, Winston-Salem

Rides, food, exhibits, shows, music, animals, carnival games and much more. All Ages. See website for full list of events.

Art in the Arboretum, Greensboro, FREE

A juried art and fine craft event featuring fifty artists from throughout the region exhibiting their hand-crafted offerings in an outdoor gallery. This event also features entertainment on three stages, interactive art activities, Garden Quest and two food courts. 

Cane Pole Fishing Hole Derby, Burlington, FREE

Anyone can fish, but the contest is for kids ages 5-12. Prizes will be awarded to winners in two age groups for the biggest and the most fish caught. No registration needed — just show up! Read more about this event.

Cinema Under the Stars, Greensboro, FREE

Bring a blanket and lounge on the lawn for this outdoor movie event. Tonight's feature movie is "Jurassic World." The movie starts at sunset. 

Day Out with Thomas: Ready, Set, Go Tour 2016, Spencer, DAY TRIP

Take a ride with Thomas the Tank Engine and Percy. Meet Sir Topham Hatt™, Controller of the Railway. Enjoy a day of Thomas-themed activities including arts and crafts, storytelling and more. 

Ghost Train, Blowing Rock, DAY TRIP

Admission includes all the nighttime events in the park including the ride on the Ghost Train, Trick-or-Treating for the kids, Haunted House, Tweetsie Palace Spooktacular, the rides in the Creepy Carnival and the attractions in the "Bone Yard” section. History Rocks! High Point, FREE

The event includes local bands, food, hands-on activities and demonstrations. Bring chairs and blankets to sit and listen to the music in the Historical Park. The High Point Police Department will be on hand with vehicles and a K9 demonstration. A special feature will be a rock-a-thon to benefit the Historical Society Adopt-An-Artifact program.

HPUniverse Day, High Point, FREE

Visitors are encouraged to explore space, science and beyond through 20 different learning stations and activities. Visit enough stations, and you can collect a prize. While many of the activities are geared toward kids and their families, there are several that adults will enjoy, too.

Mother & Son Fun, Winston-Salem

Enjoy a pizza dinner, craft, cookie-decorating, story time and a little dancing, too. Registration Required.

Spookywoods & Maize Adventure, Archdale

Spookywoods includes 150 incredibly costumed characters and movie quality sets for a spooktacular experience. Maize Adventure provides an entertaining, yet educational atmosphere that celebrates fellowship while building traditional values. Offering fun for the whole family, pets are also welcome on a leash to share the great outdoors and explore the corn maze.
