Writer's Guidelines

Piedmont Parent and PiedmontParent.com welcome submissions from freelance writers.

Each month we run several feature articles on topics related to our monthly theme and an article published exclusively on the Web site that goes along with this same theme. Features require thorough research (citing a minimum of three reliable sources), knowledge of our audience, and concise interviewing and writing skills. Articles on topics other than each issue's theme are also considered. We prefer articles and essays with local relevancy. Word counts for articles vary from 500 to 1,200 words. If you wish to query the editor, please include a story outline and previously published writing samples.

Please remember that we receive many more submissions than we can use. We may not be able to respond personally to every query.

Submit articles/queries to:

Myra Wright, Editor
E-mail: editor@piedmontparent.com
Mail: Piedmont Parent, P.O. Box 530, King, NC 27021

Karen M. Alley, Web Editor

Email: webeditor@piedmontparent.com

If possible, articles should be e-mailed, preferably as MS Word documents.
Manuscripts should include the author's name, address, Social Security number and daytime phone number on the first page of the story. Include the word count with the article. We use the Associated Press Stylebook and Webster's New World Dictionary. The editor reserves the right to edit for clarity, length and style. If major revisions are needed, you will be contacted.
Accompanying photographs (along with written permission) and electronic art are welcome (black and white or color).

Deadlines
Two to three months before the date of the issue.

Payment
Fees vary depending on the length and depth of the story. Writers are paid by the end of the publication month. We do not pay kill fees. We usually buy one-time print rights with exclusivity within our region and the right to post the story on our Web site. Reprints of articles from publications outside our region are also considered.
