Memorial Day: more than backyard barbecues and beach trips

This weekend many of you will be hitting the roads for a mini vacation. AAA of the Carolinas is estimating nearly 900-thousand North Carolina residents will be traveling this weekend!

Regardless if you are traveling, taking a day trip, or a much needed stay-cation… consider doing a little something to celebrate the Memorial Day holiday.
Memorial Day has been around since 1868, but was declared a national holiday in 1971. It is observed on the last Monday of May, and is a chance for families to reflect and pay respect to the men and women who have sacrificed their lives for our freedom.
Here in the Triad, there are many opportunities to teach your kids about Memorial Day…
In Thomasville, a Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony will be held on Monday, starting at 10 a.m. with a Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Ceremony in Downtown Thomasville, and ending at 1:30 p.m. with a parachute jump at Cushwa Stadium.
